El Huawei Mate 20 Pro es un teléfono sobresaliente con un nombre de trabalenguas que tiene motivos para justificar su alto precio de 1.049 euros, al menos en parte. Es un smartphone con muchos puntos fuertes y destacables que hemos podido comprobar durante diez días de prueba a fondo.
Su gigante pantalla de 6,4 pulgadas consigue un resultado sorprendente: hacer que el móvil parezca más pequeño de lo que en realidad es, gracias a un efecto curvado en sus bordes laterales, y a unos marcos reducidos en gran medida en los bordes superior e inferior. En el superior cuenta con una muesca, ya típica en los móviles, donde aloja una cámara frontal y un identificador biométrico para desbloquear el teléfono con la mera presencia de la cara de su propietario.
El reconocimiento facial no es el único sensor biométrico, aunque no tiene un lector de huellas tradicional en un botón o situado en la parte trasera, en Huawei han decidido ir un paso más allá y conseguir que sea la propia pantalla la que reconozca las huellas dactilares del propietario. Se consigue con un sensor ultrasónico situado debajo de la pantalla que se enciende cuando detecta el dedo posado sobre el cristal y examina las curvas presentes en las yemas de los dedos. No es el primer móvil que se fabrica con esta tecnología, pero sí el primero en llegar a España y en hacerlo a escala mundial.
Siguiendo en su interior, su conjunto de procesadores Kirin 980 incorpora una NPU (una unidad de procesamiento neuronal), junto a su GPU (gráficos) y CPU (cálculos generales), con la que el smartphone realiza cálculos específicos para procesamiento de fotografías o para identificar nuestra cara de forma más precisa.
Huawei es una compañía peculiar. Comenzó como una empresa de telecomunicaciones bajo el paraguas del Gobierno de Pekín que dió el salto a nivel internacional mientras expandía también su base de negocios creando teléfonos para otras compañías. Poco después descubrieron que estaban mejor fabricándolos bajo su propia marca (y luego dos marcas, al añadir Honor) y, como quien no quiere la cosa, estiman vender 200 millones de smartphones este año. La mayoría de los teléfonos que vende son de precio medio o reducido, pero también tiene absolutas joyas como es el caso de hoy.
Con estos 200 millones de móviles, Huawei se pone muy cerca de dar el sorpasso a Apple que diferentes estudios de análisis estiman que cerrará el año en torno a los 220 o 230 millones de smartphones vendidos, una cifra ligeramente superior que los dos 231, 211 y 216 millones de terminales que ha vendido en los últimos años. Muy por delante queda Samsung con 317 millones de smartphones vendidos en 2017. Huawei no se amilana, y a pesar de no conseguir entrar en Estados Unidos, quiere ser el número uno en ventas en 2020.
De momento, el Huawei Mate 20 Pro se siente mejor que cualquier teléfono que haya puesto Samsung en las estanterías durante 2018, incluyendo el Galaxy Note 9, un teléfono que no deja de ser excelente y que tiene también muchos puntos fuertes, pero que en gran medida es una receta conocida.
