Con la llegada de iOS 12, los usuarios de un iPhone con Face ID pueden configurar un rostro alternativo al principal. Aunque puede utilizarse para añadir a una segunda persona a Face ID, no es lo recomendable. Pero antes veamos cómo se puede poner otra cara en Face ID de un iPhone X, XS, XS Max y XR.

Cómo añadir una cara alternativa a Face ID

El iPhone X e iOS 11 sólo permitían configurar una única cara a Face ID. Con la llegada de iOS 12, cualquier usuario que haya actualizado a la última versión de iOS puede añadir un rostro alternativo al sistema. Tan solo hay que seguir estos pasos:

  • En el iPhone, ve a Ajustes > Face ID y Código.
  • Introduce tu código del iPhone y ve a Configurar un rostro alternativo.
  • Sigue los pasos, que incluyen dar dos vueltas a tu cara alternativa para que el sistema la registre correctamente.
  • Al terminar recibirás una confirmación.

Por desgracia, no hay una opción para eliminar el rostro alternativo de Face ID. Para ello, deberás restablecer Face ID por completo y configurar un rostro de nuevo.

Cuándo deberías utilizar el segundo rostro de Face ID

Con el lanzamiento del iPhone X el año pasado, algunos usuarios veían necesario la inclusión de más de un rostro a Face ID. De manera similar a como Touch ID puede configurarse para hasta 5 huellas diferentes, la idea sería la de permitir que otros usuarios utilizasen el dispositivo. Aunque iOS 12 permite configurar un segundo rostro, está pensado para situaciones determinadas.

Según nos hizo saber Apple, el rostro alternativo de Face ID tiene por objetivo facilitar la identificación de una misma persona que, por la razón que sea, tenga una cara significativamente diferente en algunas situaciones:

  • Un payaso que se pinta la cara, añade una nariz, un bigote o unas gafas para sus actuaciones.
  • Bailarines, cantantes, artistas en general que modifiquen sus rostros.
  • Profesiones que requieran un casco, máscara o gafas especiales: médicos, enfermeros, obreros, arquitectos, motoristas, etc.

Si notas que Face ID no funciona en circunstancias como estas o parecidas, configurar un rostro alternativo puede ser la solución. Sigue los pasos descritos arriba y configúralo cuando lleves estas “modificaciones” en tu cara puestas.

Por qué no deberías configurar más de un rostro en Face ID

Aunque Face ID puede registrar una segunda cara, no es necesario hacerlo si tu cara no cambia sustancialmente a lo largo del día. El propio sistema es capaz de anotar los cambios en el rostro (barba, bigote, gafas, gorro) y mantener tu registro actualizado.

Apple también nos ha asegurado que si añadimos un rostro alternativo, el reconocimiento de Face ID puede demorarse ligeramente. En otras palabras, el sistema debe contrastar el rostro que tiene frente a los sensores con el almacenado en el Secure Enclave del terminal. Si hay dos rostros, necesitará una pizca más de tiempo.

Algo similar ocurría con Touch ID. Se pueden incorporar hasta 5 huellas diferentes, pero eso hace que el sistema tenga que comprobar cada huella con las que tiene guardadas antes de darle el visto bueno. Eso sí, con Touch ID 2 la velocidad era tan rápida que el impacto era mínimo.

Quienes estén pensando en configurar la cara de otra persona en su iPhone con Face ID, deben tener en cuenta también que están disminuyendo las medidas de seguridad de su dispositivo. Al contrario que un Mac o un iPad, el iPhone es un dispositivo personal con acceso a datos bancarios, salud, etc. Agregar a otra persona supondría socavar los esfuerzos por mantenerlo a salvo.

Por eso, Apple se refiere a esta función como un rostro alternativo y no un segundorostro.
