Así lo afirma el propio Lei Jun, CEO de la compañía, en respuesta a un usuario en la plataforma social Weibo, según leemos en GizmoChina. El foco en mantener a Redmi como una marca enfocada en la relación calidad/precio, o lo que es lo mismo, en los teléfonos de gama alta. Jun considera que Xiaomi se debe centrar en los teléfonos de gama alta, pero hay una diferencia más: el canal de venta. Los teléfonos Redmi se distribuyen hasta ahora principalmente online, no tan característico de los teléfonos Mi.
Se habla de que, de esta forma, la marca Mi –la principal de Xiaomi– también resultará beneficiada puesto que permitiría a la compañía centrarse en ella de una forma más específica. Este es un acercamiento que ya vemos en otros fabricantes, como Huawei con Honor y Oppo y Realme, que también acecha a públicos diferentes con cada marca. En el caso de Xiaomi, sus marcas en telefonía quedarían distribuidas de la siguiente forma:
- Redmi, la más ajustada en precio
- Poco, ‘premium’ pero con precio agresivo
- Mi, para los teléfonos insignia
Redmi acumula la mayor parte de las ventas del fabricante, y quizás este movimiento arroje una mayor independencia que le permita innovar y diferenciarse más marcadamente de los teléfonos actualmente con Mi.
