Los últimos resultados de Sony muestran el negocio de móviles peor que nunca 95
Los problemas de Sony Mobile se remontan a varios años atrás pero los últimos resultados financieros de Sony indican que su negocio de telefonía móvil está peor que nunca.
Los resultados más recientes muestran un descenso de los ingresos del 31% en los 12 meses que preceden al 31 de marzo de 2019. La reducción se debió principalmente a que el número de unidades vendidas de Xperia se redujo a la mitad, de 13,5 millones de unidades en el año anterior a sólo 6,5 millones en los últimos 12 meses.
Esto significa que Sony envió sólo 1,1 millones de unidades Xperia en el último trimestre, el más bajo de todos los tiempos, y por un margen considerable. Esto ha resultado en pérdidas mucho más altas para la división, que aumentaron en 70.000 millones de yenes a 97.000 millones de yenes en total.
Sony planea reducir los gastos operativos dentro de su división móvil en un 50%, y tiene un plan para que Sony Mobile vuelva a ser rentable en marzo de 2021. Reducir a la mitad el número de empleados de la división de smartphones es uno de los puntos que supuestamente ayudará a Sony a conseguirlo.
Además, Sony ha acelerado sus planes de cesar la producción en su fábrica de Pekín y ha confirmado que ha abandonado varios mercados, incluido Oriente Medio, así como América Central y del Sur.
Sony quiere centrarse en obtener beneficios a través de nuevos productos como el Xperia 1, y se centrará en sus «regiones importantes» de Asia oriental, Japón y Europa.
Sony tiene previsto consolidar en el futuro varios de sus negocios electrónicos en una división llamada «Electronics Products & Solutions (EP&S)», pero ha confirmado que seguirá detallando las cifras de su negocio móvil «por el momento».
