Después de meses de pequeños adelantos, hoy, por fin, conocemos el teléfono de Andy Rubin, uno de los creadores de Android. Se trata de Essential, y la mejor forma de describirlo es como si Apple y Huawei hubieran tenido un hijo, y es que el dispositivo combina lo último en tecnología con un diseño sofisticado.
En primer lugar, destaca su pantalla de 5.71 pulgadas, la cual se extiende de lado a lado y hasta la parte superior del frente del celular, sólo queda un pequeñísimo espacio para la cámara frontal (muy parecida a lo que se podría ver en el iPhone 8). Además, cuenta con una relación de aspecto de 19:10 y una resolución Quad HD (2560 x 1312 pixeles).
Lo mejor es que todo viene en medidas de 141.5 x 71.1 x 7.8 milímetros, es decir, se trata de una unidad bastante delgada.
En cuanto a la óptica, Essential integra una cámara dual en la parte trasera de 13 megapixeles –con un sensor dedicado para imágenes monocromáticas–, mientras que la cámara frontal es de 8 megapixeles. Lo novedoso es que ambas pueden grabar video en 4K.
Las especificaciones técnicas incluyen un procesador Snapdragon 835 de ocho núcleos, el mismo que viene en teléfonos como el Galaxy S8 y el HTC U11, memoria RAM de 4GB, almacenamiento de 128GB y sistema operativo Android (aunque no se especifica la versión), en tanto que su batería es de 3040mAh con tecnología de carga rápida. Claro, incluye un puerto USB Tipo C y un lector de huellas digitales, y sí, elimina la tradicional entrada para audífonos (3.5 mm), pero agrega un adaptador.
Por fuera, luce un cuerpo de titanio que, a diferencia del aluminio encontrado en los equipos actuales en el mercado, lo hace mucho más resistente a golpes y caídas. Asimismo, la parte trasera del teléfono es de cerámica negra con protección Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
Lo interesante de Essential es que integra un par de pines para agregar accesorios. Sí, se mete a un terreno en el que Moto Z es el rey y LG no salió tan bien librado con su LG G5.
Así, se le puede añadir de forma instantánea una pequeña cámara de 360 grados y 12 megapixeles con la capacidad de grabar video en Ultra HD (3840 x 1920 pixeles), además de una base para cargarlo de energía. En el futuro, podrían lanzarse más módulos.
Finalmente, Essential estará disponible en cuatro colores: negro, gris, blanco y ocean depths, por tan sólo 699 dólares.
